Claim Adjusting

Many people make the mistake of being able to expect the insurance company to hold to their word when it comes time to pay out, but insurance companies have had years to refine their policies and to understand the language that offers them the ability to wiggle out of their commitments to you. While no one is asking you to assume the worst of your insurance company when it comes time for claim adjusting it is also equally important for you to understand that the friendly adjuster that shows up at your home is usually not your friend. In Illinois State you have the right to have your own independentclaim adjusting done either by a public adjuster or through a lawyer. The purpose of this is for you to get a fair valuation and determination from the insurance company for what your home, the repairs to your home and your contents are worth. However in many cases using the insurance or public adjuster will not save you from the aggressive tactics of the insurance company nor will it help you get what your home and contents are worth or what your policy originally promised you. A public adjuster is not always the most reputable of people to have on your side nor can they help you with anything else besides valuation.

For instance many public adjusters have a conflict of interest due to the fact that they are also a construction company and may also have worked with the insurance company on many occasions. They may require that you take their construction services as part of the claim adjusting package and if they are frequent customers of the insurance company you may find that their decisions and choices are based on their best interests not yours. Lawyers have no such conflicts and are in most cases bound to being an impartial representative that always has your best interests at heart not their own. They are not allow chasing you down like the public adjusters are to compete for your business but must sit and wait for you to come to them. In the mean time you may find that your claim adjusting is not going the way you want it to and that the insurance company is equipped with all sorts of dirty tactics to ensure that they pay as little as possible on your claim. Perhaps the best reason to choose a lawyer for your claim adjusting however is that he is capable of working through any contractual or legal issues that may arise from your problems with the insurance company.

A public adjuster can only valuate your property, a lawyer can do this and much more as well and usually for the same price as the public adjuster. His advice will be invaluable as the insurance company requires statements under oath or other techniques designed to eliminate fire insurance fraud but are frequently used by the insurance company to intimidate and get you to settle. If you need a lawyer to help you withclaim adjusting then take the time to consult with Steven B. Pollack for Fire Claim Law, he will offer you representation that includes claim adjusting but does not stop there.
